How to Change Forgotten Windows XP Password with an Install CD

If you have forgotten your Windows XP password and don't have a password reset disk, there are still a few ways that you can change your password. One way is to use an install CD.

If you have an install CD for Windows XP, you can use it to change your forgotten password. To do this, you will need to boot from the CD. When you get to the part of the setup where it asks you for your product key, do not enter it. Instead, press the Enter key to continue.

Once you get to the Welcome to Setup screen, press the R key to enter the Recovery Console. At the Recovery Console prompt, type the following commands:

cd \windows\system32\config

ren default default.bak

ren sam sam.bak

ren security security.bak

ren software software.bak

copy c:\windows\repair\sam .

copy c:\windows\repair\security .

copy c:\windows\repair\software .

After you have executed these commands, you will need to reboot your computer. When you get to the login screen, you should be able to login with the username "Administrator" and the password that you set in the Recovery Console.

If you don't have an install CD for Windows XP, you can still change your forgotten password by using a utility called Kon-Boot. Kon-Boot is a utility that allows you to login to your computer without needing a password.

To use Kon-Boot, you will need to create a bootable CD or USB drive. Once you have done this, you can boot from the CD or USB drive and login to your computer without needing a password.

Once you are logged in, you can change your password by going to the Control Panel and opening the User Accounts applet. From here, you can change your password for the account that you are logged in to.

Kon-Boot is a great utility for changing your forgotten Windows XP password. It is quick and easy to use and it doesn't require you to have an install CD for Windows XP.
